At this workshop, the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR) will unveil their white paper on the planning and regulatory framework for successful high-speed rail districts, including the need for minimum densities, transferable development rights and joint development. A response panel will discuss the role of the public and private sector in ensuring implementation of TOD within the proposed framework.

3) TOD Placemaking: Well-Designed TOD’s and Future Guidelines
Highlights of the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s Urban Design Guidelines will be presented. This workshop discusses design approaches towards station and land use development interconnecting neighboring land uses that reduce the vehicle oriented atmosphere of a transit station. This panel of experts will provide exemplary examples of existing Transit Oriented Development sites, what worked and what may not, applicable towards high speed rail centers at various scales.

A public infrastructure project of this magnitude requires skillful communication and a well thought out education strategy for the communities surrounding high speed rail stops. How will high speed rail impact quality of life issues? What are the community benefits? Can the community engage in the design process? Will property values be impacted? Come learn from the experts on effective land use community outreach strategies. This workshop will be advantageous to city planning professionals and real estate developers.
