INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

The San Diego/Tijuana chapter of the Urban Land Institute will offer a Jan. 13 panel talk on how the San Diego region can capture some of the infrastructure dollars that are being promised by President-elect Barack Obama. A "Ready-to-Go" economic stimulus proposal spearheaded by the San Diego Association of Governments outlines $3 billion in transportation projects that can start construction within 12 months. In addition, voters just approved a variety of other state and regional bond issues to fund rail expansion, hospital and school facility improvements -- efforts that will greatly aid the economy.

The Jan. 13 presentation, "ULI Infrastructure Report 2008 -- A Competitive Advantage," will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the University Club,

750 B St.
in Downtown San Diego. The cost is $40 for ULI members, $50 for nonmembers and $25 for student members. After Jan. 8, the prices rise by $10. To register, call (800) 321-5011 and mention event code 8132-0914.

Panelists on the program will include Marney Cox, chief economist at Sandag; Gary Gallegos, executive director of Sandag; and Tom Murphy, senior fellow of the Urban Land Institute, Washington, D.C.
