UPDATE ON NEW CENTRAL LIBRARY/CHARTER SCHOOL

The Urban Land Institute San Diego will sponsor a panel talk on Aug. 11 on plans to include a charter high school on the sixth and seventh floors of the new central library Downtown. It will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at The University Club,

750 B St.

The San Diego City Council voted to move forward with the charter school plan on July 7, an action that shores up a $20 million commitment from the San Diego Unified School District for the school and helps secure a $20 million grant from the State Librarian for the library project. Panelists will give an update on the latest design, funding, community impacts and schedule for the library. Panelists include Jay Hill, executive director of the San Diego Library Foundation; Rob Quigley, an architect; and B>Bernie Rhinerson, chief district relations officer for the San Diego Unified School District . Ian Gill with Highland Partnership will serve as the moderator.

The cost is $40 for ULI members, $50 for nonmembers and $25 for students. For registration after Aug. 6, the cost increases by $10. For information, call (800) 321-5011 or visit www.ulisd.org.
