ULI seeking entries

 

 

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) San Diego/Tijuana District Council is seeking entries for its fourth annual Smart Growth Awards program.

The awards program recognizes distinguished planning and design achievement, as well as visionaries helping to fulfill and advance the principles of smart growth.

ULI defines smart growth as development that is economically sound, environmentally friendly and supportive of community livability.

Entry forms, which can be found on the ULI website (www.ulisd.org), must be completed and returned by May 1. Applications will be judged by a panel of local planning, design and development professionals.

For eligibility: Entries must originate in the San Diego/Tijuana Region; entries may be the work or inspiration of individuals, organizations, governments and their agencies, and companies; entries may include entitled, under-construction or built projects; programs, policies, plans, research, events and initiatives are eligible; and membership in ULI is not a requirement.

Categories include Smart Growth Project, Smart Growth Plan/Policy and Smart Growth Visionary.

Projects or programs that do not fit into the three specified categories may be submitted under the Other category.

The jury reserves the ability to create additional award categories as needed to ensure that exceptional nominees will be recognized for their contributions.

The awards will be held at 5:30 p.m. on June 26 at the newly renovated Balboa Theatre,

868 Fourth Ave.
in downtown San Diego .

The keynote speaker for the event is Jerry Yudelson, considered one of the country's leading experts on green buildings and green building marketing.

A registered professional engineer, Yudelson is an expert in the LEE green building rating system and is the author of nine books about green building.
