Young Leaders | Smart Growth AwardsCongratulations to the 2007 Smart Growth Award Winners! Below is a brief list of winners and the awards they received. For details, please visit www.sandiego.uli.org/news/16. Best Framework for Smart Growth Award: The San Diego Association of Governments for its Smart Growth Concept Plan, a document that contains almost 200 existing, planned and proposed smart growth locations throughout the San Diego Region. Neighborhood Revitalization Catalyst Award: Presented to COMM22, a mixed-use, transit-oriented development that combines 234 affordable family and senior housing options. Affordable Housing Award: Presented to Lillian Place, a 74-unit infill apartment complex that will provide new housing options for low and moderate-income families in San Diego. Progressive Agricultural Sustainability Award: The Tierra Miguel Foundation and Organic Farm is a working biodynamic farm and charitable organization offering education programs that demonstrate, teach and promote sustainable, community-based food production that encourage a healthy lifestyle. LEEDership in Smart Growth Award: La Jolla Commons is a mixed-use development located in the UTC area that includes a 15-story, 340,000-square-foot office tower that received a Silver Pre-Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Core and Shell (LEED--CS) program by the U.S. Green Building Council program. Silk Purse Award: Presented to the R3 Building, which used smart growth principles to overcome a challenging 1,600-square-foot parcel to create an iconic building at the edge of Little Italy. Smartest of 2007 Award: SOLARA, the first apartment community in California to be fully powered by the sun. |
