Nearly 200 people attended our Annual Trends Conference on November 13 "The Dollars, Sense and Leadership of Sustainability" that featured some of the country's leading economists and experts on sustainability. Author and sustainable development promoter Hunter Lovins headlined the conference, regaling the audience with stories about working alongside President Bill Clinton and the Prince of Wales, and helping the country of Afghanistan and major international corporations to advance sustainable development and sustainable living. The conference also included two panel discussions, one of which addressed how to survive and flourish in a sustainable future, the other the challenges of building in dense areas as they relate to sustainability. Dean Schwanke, senior vice president of Urban Land Institute, and Alan Gin, Ph.D., University of San Diego economist discussed the economic outlook for the city in 2008. For a detailed recap of all the Trends topics, please our news releases.

Dec 4, 2007: ULI @ Lunch: Redevelopment- What it really means and what it entails

Our new ULI @ Lunch programs are quickly becoming a sought-after ticket. Both our November and December programs were SOLD OUT! These highly educational and interactive sessions allow for more thorough discussion of some of the industry's most engaging topics - and space is limited to just 30 participants.

Attendees at November's program received valuable advice, tips and information about the new construction stormwater permits from legal and engineering experts. Special thanks to Wayne Rosenbaum of Foley & Lardner, Ralph Vasquez of SCS Engineers and Denis Bowling of Rick Engineering for leading the discussion.

Redevelopment was on the minds of December's ULI @ Lunch participants as Jerry Trimble, managing principal with Keyser Marston Associates, Inc., discussed the opportunities and constraints developers face during the redevelopment process, and explained what is needed to complete transactions with redevelopment agencies.
